From the mid 1970’s to the mid 1980’s as a kid I spent my summers at the farm in Lakeview, Michigan and much of it swimming in First Lake In Six Lakes the next town over. I became good friends with some folks from all over MI and IN who camped or had cottages on First Lake. By the time I turned sixteen I was working and taking college classes in the summer and didn’t spend much time at the lake. We all kind of went our separate ways. Through the wonder of Facebook we have found each other again and now the first weekend of August for the past two years we have had a reunion back at First Lake. This was the second reunion. We ate hot dogs and marshmallows and climbed on the playground equipment again just like we were kids. I am looking forward to seeing all these folks again next summer if not before. Here is to old friends and summers gone by. May we all get to remember what it means to be a kid.
Hanging out at the camp site.
We found these t-shirts at the hardware store.
“What Happens In Six Lakes Stays In Six Lakes”
We did lots of eating.
Here is a bunch of us being goofy.
Yep that is me-hanging from the rafters.
What did I say about being a kid?
Can you believe that thing is holding all of us?
The next generation of First Lake friends.
Some swans joined us.
We enjoyed watching them and hanging out.
We talked and watched the sun sink into the lake.
Some the kids went for a late swim.
We talked about the many things we each had gained and lost over the years. This is a memorial tattoo of a dear friend who has lost both of her parents and 3 babies. As Betty Davis said “Growing older isn’t for sissies”
I am glad to have reconnected with old friends who I have shared part of my journey with. I love you all and I look forward to many more reunions.
