One of the big events during our town festival- The Red Flannel Festival- is the marching band competition. This year marked the 50th band competition and the 71st anniversary for the festival itself. As part of my band mom duties I sold programs. Now I didn’t compete in high school and college in persuasive speaking for nothing so I had all the programs sold out with in about an hour and a half. This meant I could go to the band room, see Abbi, see the rest of the band, and listen to them warm up. It was a wonderful experience to lean against the band room wall and let the beautiful music wash over me, reverberating in to my chest. It was a rainy day and the band was deplumed and ready to take the field in raincoats when the rain quit. They took the field and marched wonderfully for a home town crowd that was excited to see them – truly rain or shine. Yeah for the Red Flannel Marching Band Competition and yeah for 50 years of the band being the thing.
