We get by with a little help from our friends

So a good friend of mine recently sustained a badly broken leg. How did she obtain this injury you ask? Her puppy ran over her.  Now this is no ordinary puppy.  The dog’s mom is a golden retriever and the father is supposedly a black lab but we all believe it is actually a moose. Her leg is healing with the aid of a plate and 6 screws. My husband asked when he heard about the incident “Is the dog still alive?  I would have thought about shooting it if it were me but Brien might actually do it.”  Brien is my dear friend’s husband. When I asked my friend Stacey that question she responded “well the kids were there.” Touché. Needless to say my dear friend isn’t doing a lot of gardening so some of us in the garden club got together and went over to weed her garden. We had nice weather and a good time pulling weeds and chatting. I brought my extra good helper as you can see in the pictures.

Stacey joins us but has to keep her leg elevated- the moose/dog is hiding. Cindy and Pat work on the flower beds.

The Garden Club works at the Cedar Springs Middle School

The Garden Club recently put in several days weeding, mulching, pruning and general clean up at the entrance of our newly built middle school. In addition to the regular members several of us brought along some special "helpers" Cindy, Caelun, Sarah, Chris, and Joyce work on the front bed.

Morley Park

After the cook out at our house following the planting at Riggle Park we moved on to Morley Park. This park is about six blocks from our house and contains: play ground equipment, gazebo, soft ball field, Scout Cabin, and football field with track. Have I mentioned how much a love our little town? Sorry ladies I didn't get this posted earlier- something about Clint's sister Mandy getting married while simultaneously preparing to leave the state for New England for two weeks made posting a low priority. Now that I am on vacation expect the post to come fast and furious- at least that is the theory.

Preparation is well under way when I arrive from cleaning up the cook out.

In addition to the afore mentioned crew is Karen- behind the sign

Ready to plant- and we didn't know it at the time but, one of those bags contained Sarah's wedding ring. No worries her dear husband came and searched through them- she was at work- and found the missing ring. Whew!

The next day - Sandy, Cindy, and Pat work away

Almost done

Yeah! We did it!

Planting at Riggle Park

The park kitty corner from my house - Riggle Park- just got a brand new sign provided by the city. The garden club is in charge of planting flowers and shrubs around the sign. The city provides the materials we provide the labor. We had a potluck cook out at my house afterwards. Caelun was sleeping until the end of the cook out so he missed out on the fun, but at least he woke up in time to eat all of the yummy food.

Planting the city planters

"I don't garden because I like to. I am an old southern woman. We are supposed to wear old funny hats and grow vegetables in the dirt. Don't ask me why- I don't make the rules." Steel Magnolias.
We did so much already over this long weekend that it will take several posts and several days to catch up. Saturday morning Abby and I went and planted flowers in the city planters with The Garden Club. The planters will be moved to line main street. We had to hurry home to make lunch for my parents coming over.
