Independence Day followed rapidly by Clint’s birthday always reminds us that summer is flying by and we had better get in a trip if we are going to take one. We decided to stay a bit closer to home this year because Caelun at 4 is at an age that is hard for long car trips. We thought it would be fun to take the ferry across Lake Michigan to Milwaukee and then drive back around the lake stopping in Chicago. There are several ferries that go across the lake at a couple of different locations. The high speed Lake Express runs across Lake Michigan in just two and a half hours between Muskegon and Milwaukee. We are less than an hour from Muskegon so we got up in the the morning, drove to the boat, and drove right on board. Caelun thought that was pretty darn cool. I think for him the ferry experience might have been one of the best parts of the trip. If you get a chance to do it I highly recommend it. If your are interested this is a link to the Lake Express web site with information.
Approaching the Lake Express
Driving on board
Out of the van and on the deck feeling the breeze.
Caelun checks out the boats in the harbor. He looks very much the red head in these pictures.
Off to check out the inside cabin.
A nice view from inside the boat. We even had a hot breakfast.
The Milwaukee Clipper is another ferry and it was in the harbor at the time we were boarding.
And we’re off! Bye Muskegon.
And the wind picks up as we pick up speed.
A view of Milwaukee as we approach.
The deck was warm and Caelun liked the hum of the engine so he laid down.
We pull in to the harbor at Milwaukee…
…and drive off the boat on to our next adventure and it is barley even lunch time.
