Winchester, VA is a place with all kinds of historical significance. Lots of Quaker folks founded the area due to its hospitable land and easy access to water. Geroge Washington had his office here when he was a surveyor and used it as a post during the French and Indian War. Winchester was a place of defense against the British during the Revolutionary War and later it was a key location of conflict during the Civil War changing hands between north and south no less than 73 times. Both Generals Grant and Stonewall Jackson had field offices here. We hit a few of the historic sights but by no means all. I am not sure the kids were impressed- mostly it was more dusty old buildings. Clint and I have recently read a biography of Washington titled “His Excellency” and this office was chronicled. For us it was an exciting dusty old building.
Caelun at the hotel ready to take on the day.
One of the oldest buildings in town, a Quaker settlement.
Caelun likes to scare the ducks and throw rocks in to the spring.
Part of John Brown’s arsenal.
Dusty old buildings but the girls are enjoying laying in the grass.
Abbi found a cool bug.
A cannon used a the defense of Fort Loudoun.
We all walked the very same floors that George Washington walked.
Enough of the dusty old buildings- it was much more fun to play outside.
