When we decided to take our vacation in VA we didn’t know it would be in the 90’s. We decided the best way to combat that was to head below ground. We are geeks so this kind of thing is right up our alley. They had a self guided walking tour that explains the different formations and the history of the cave. It was a great day.
Heading down underground
Stalactites above Mirror Lake
Abbi and Perry check things out
“curtains” or “drapes” of rock
We all walked and we actually took the stroller through the cave.
Caelun loved to hold on to the railing as we walked.
They have found rocks in the cave that vibrate in every pitch of an organ. They hooked them up with rubber mallets and then amplified the sound to play music. Kind of cool.
More of the wonder twins.
They have a “wishing well” for charity
Caelun liked throwing in a penny.
The famous “fried eggs” on the way out- this is where a stalactite broke off and then over many years people would rub it on the way to giving it a smooth finish.
